After the effects of the Deepwater Horizons Oil Spill took place, President Obama on April 30 declared, “BP is responsible for this horrific disaster, and we will hold them fully accountable on behalf of the United States and people and communities victimized by this tragedy” (Barrack Obama, 2010).
British Petroleum (BP) expresses their views on the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. “We regret the impacts on the environment and livelihoods of those in the communities affected. We have and continue to put in place measures to help ensure it does not happen again” (BP.com, 2014). They have taken responsibility for the clean-up working under the direction of the federal government and BP has responded swiftly to compensate people affected by the impact of the accident. They look after the health, safety, and welfare of the large number of residents and people who helped respond to the spill, and they support the economic recovery of the Gulf Coast’s tourism and seafood industries impacted by the spill (BP.com, 2014). They have conducted studies with federal and state natural resource trustees to identify and define the injury to natural resources in the Gulf of Mexico (BP.com, 2014). This video contains BP COO, Doug Suttles', as well as another scientist's response to the oil spill.
